The Deceivers

A gripping adventure yarn about British Army Captain William Savage (Pierce Brosnan) who attempts to end the reign of terror gripping India in the 1820s as the country is ravaged by a wave of robberies and ritualistic murders committed by the Thugees, a cult dedicated to the Goddess Kali.

Successfully infiltrating the murderous secret society after dying his skin to disguise himself as a native, the aptly-named Savage must also contend with the dark and violent forces stirred within his own psyche as he experiences the Thugees’ bloodlust firsthand. With fast-paced action and tense violence provided by Hollywood directorial recruit Nicholas Meyer, Merchant Ivory demonstrate their versatility and unpredictable choice of projects.
